Simple Tooth Movement
Simple tooth movement refers to using your body’s basic biological mechanisms to reposition teeth. We’re not trying to expand the jaw or address major functional issues. All that has to happen is that we apply constant force to your teeth. In response to this force, your body restructures the bone, removing it from one side of the tooth and building it up on the other side, which allows the tooth to move.
Early Orthodontic Treatment
In orthodontics, timing is everything. With some orthodontic problems, it’s best to start treatment early–perhaps as young as age 7. If these orthodontic problems are addressed in a timely manner, it not only improves the final result, it can actually reduce the amount of time your child has to spend in braces.
Space Maintainers
Baby teeth (also called deciduous teeth) are supposed to create and hold space for your adult teeth. But if a tooth is damaged by decay or trauma and is lost or must be removed early, it can cause problems. Space maintainers preserve the proper relationship between your child’s teeth so that adult teeth can grow in normally.
Functional Orthodontics and Orthopedics
As we said above, crooked teeth can sometimes be linked to larger problems of development of the teeth and jaw. Functional orthodontics, also called dentofacial orthopedics, are designed to address these development problems. They can reshape the jaw, widening it, moving the lower jaw forward, or lengthening your jaw to make room for all your teeth. This not only helps your smile look attractive, it can improve problems like TMJ or sleep apnea.
Removable or Fixed Appliances
Many orthodontic appliances can be made as either fixed appliances (bonded to your teeth) or removable (not bonded so they can be removed for eating and oral hygiene). Removable appliances are more convenient and easier to care for, but require discipline to wear according to schedule. Fixed appliances may give better results, especially when the patient can’t necessarily be trusted to keep in appliances.
Invisalign Clear Orthodontics
All orthodontics depends on the same basic principle: applying constant force to encourage bone movement. Invisalign uses clear plastic aligners instead of metal brackets and wires to provide the force. With millions of computer-guided procedures, Invisalign continues to improve, and can help more people than ever with faster and more reliable treatments.
